Felice and Pete Wed – The Ceremony

2009 September 30

After we finished up the last of the portraits we all headed inside to relax for a few minutes before the guests began to arrive. The ceremony was beautifully touching. The bride and groom were wed by a close friend which really made the ceremony personal and sweet.

Felice and Pete Wed – Family

2009 May 20

After I was finished shooting the bride and bridesmaids we met back up with Mingwei and the boys for some more portraits. Here are a few shots of the bride and groom and their families.

Many photographers like to shoot a photo of the bride and groom under the veil. I usually skip overly posed shots, but the wind had something else in mind whipping Felice’s veil around – and over – the groom’s head.

Felice and Pete Wed – Bridal Party

2009 April 30

As soon as the first glance was over I ran inside to fetch the rest of the bridal party. We wanted to get all of the outside photos done as early as possible so if any guests arrived early (which they did) they would not spot the bride. We were already running a bit behind, so Mingwei took the boys down to one of the ponds for a photo shoot while I worked with the girls and moms. The groom was fishing in the pond for the sake of the photos and ended up catching two fish! The wind blew Felice’s veil all of the place, it probably drove her nuts, but it made for some great shots.

Felice and Pete Wed – First Glance

2009 April 28

After a little bit of back and forth Felice and Pete decided to do a first glance shoot before the ceremony. This gave us the opportunity to take all of the bridal party portraits before the wedding and saved us time after the ceremony to just take photos of the bride and groom. It also gave them a few moments just be together, just the two of them. To set up the first glance, Pete waited for Felice who walked up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder:

Felice and Pete Wed – Getting Ready

2009 April 27

At noon on Saturday I walked out my front door, took a few steps to the left and had arrived at the ceremony location. Talk about convenience! While I was hanging out with the ladies, Mingwei Tay – a fellow photographer – was photographing the groom and his friends on a golf outing. Felice’s friends were in full force helping her to get ready. Hair, make-up, even the DJ were all friends of Felice and Pete. Her dress was stunning. A Nicole Miller in taupe with a wonderfully crinkley texture. She looked amazing!

Will you be using any ‘friendors’ for your wedding?

Felicitas and Peter Wed!

2009 April 26

This weekend was a very excitng one down on the farm. Our landlords, who live in the converted barn next to our house, hosted the wedding of their daughter, Felice, to Pete St. John. It was an absolutely beautiful wedding that I had the pleasure of photographing. I will give a run down in the coming days, but until then here is a slideshow:

Bold New Hummingbird Custom Wedding Invitation

2009 April 6

One of the hot new wedding color combinations this year is navy and pink. I combined the bold colors with a sweet and modern hummingbird design. The invitation has a tiny bird flying at the top and the other pieces in the suite feature floral elements. What a fun and festive wedding this would be!

Lovebirds Custom Wedding Invitation

2009 April 3

Lovebirds are such a simple and sweet sentiment. I used the fairly popular theme on this wedding invitation set. This version shows the two bird silhouettes exchanging rings. The great thing about this design is that the colors can be absolutely anything. I had fun with this sample choosing almost sherbet -like colors. I have also adapted this design a couple times for save the dates and wedding announcements.

A Photo A Day – Week 4

2009 March 26
by emilyink

Taking a photo every day has been challenging. Especially since I don’t take my camera everywhere, so the really important little moments I was hoping to capture are missed. Oh well, it is still a fun project! This week was the week of the cat – Harrison. He has a love for sitting in the window and eating bread. He tore open a back of hot dogs buns and made good progress eating them.

Our landlords, who live in the barn on the farm where we rent, are getting ready for their daughter’s wedding in April. The wedding will be here on the farm so folks have been busy planting, building stone walls and cleaning up debris from this winter’s ice storms.

We also recently discovered a new perk to living in a rural part of the country: you don’t need to write our address to mail us something! Now, others who live in the country may not think much of this, but I was very excited. It is like being the queen!

Modern Fall Custom Wedding Invitation

2009 March 24

Hot of the presses is the newest addition to EmilyInk.Etsy.com, a modern fall custom wedding invitation set. This set is bold, sassy, chic with just the right touch of formality. The little fall icons emulate the season without being too over the top. They would be perfect for a fall afternoon, whether you are going with a theme or not. I have to say, I am loving the rounded corners too.

Retro Kitchen Mixer Bridal Shower Invitations

2009 March 23

Stand mixers are one of those gifts that even our grandmothers were wishing for when they were brides. I wanted to make this iconic wedding gift into a fun and slightly retro custom bridal shower invitation. I made them below in a four different colors, but absolutely any option is possible. I have used the same pattern you may have seen in some of my other work, but these could also be done in polka dots or even the couple’s monogram.

Vintage Pattern Custom Wedding Invitations

2009 March 19

You may recognize the pattern used in the background of these custom wedding invitations, I also use it in the EmilyInk logo. I created these invitations because I wanted something formal, but not stuffy. Each of these designs allow for a great deal of customization while still being simple and elegant. Here are a couple different font and color combinations:

Custom Bridal Shower Invitation- Cupcakes!

2009 March 19

My mother and I had a blast baking cupcakes for my bridal shower last year. There is just something about them and their adorableness that makes cupcakes even more yummy! Thinking about my own shower inspired me to make these custom cupcake bridal shower invitations:

Haircut Day

2009 March 18
by emilyink

Our dog, Rooney, has been in desperate need of a haircut for some time. I have just been trimming his eyebrows here and there, but keeping everything else long because it has been so cold. He is a schnauzer/poodle/yorkie mix so I am not even sure how he is supposed to look. The hair on his head is different from the hair on his back which is different from the hair on his legs. He even has patches of head hair amongst his back hair. He is a mutt indeed.

Today it was 70 and sunny. With just two days of winter left, I decided to give Rooney a haircut. I am not very good. He is terrified of the electric clippers and is extremely jumpy. So, I end up hacking away at him with a combination of the clippers and scissors. I am hoping pratice makes perfect, this is attempt five or so (he is 11 months old).

Do you have any hair cutting advice for my dog and me?

A Photo A Day – Week 3

2009 March 18
by emilyink

I spent most of my free time during week three working on three paintings for my husband’s birthday. His loves the web comic, Penny Arcade. So, I took one of his favorite strips from the comic and made a triptic. The wording was definitely a huge challenge. The sun also came out last week and I hope for good! This winter was rough out here in the woods, so the warmth is welcomed with open arms.
